I came across this questions from some UX designer. Now i want to ask you –

What made you think that you are designing for your boss/client & not for users? Think!

Think about it — May be your client/boss know about your users well & are thorough with user research. Its not impossible as i have worked with many Founders/ CEO’s who take great interest in user studies/ research & know exactly what they (users) want. Now if this the case, this is how you should be doing –

Ask your boss/client to share the knowledge with you based on what they are expecting you to design
Study their research & as well work on your research to strengthen your points
Drive hypothesis based on data received
Share your insights & work collaboratively

The above approach will help you understand their point of views & also help you build your expertise in User Research.
