Being that is already May, here it is my retrospective for April.

As you already might know, this year I started to write a retrospective of each month — writing down some thoughts, interesting facts and suggesting a couple of things that inspired me through the current month.

There were a couple of interesting things that happened this month.

Given that we had a very nice weather here, I managed to go out biking a couple of times. It was great to take some break from work, screens and everything related to that.

Also, after a very long break, me and a couple of other local designers had our first meeting. We created some plans, so hopefully we can start at least a small group of designers, where we can meet and share our thoughts, ideas or just have some fun.

Besides that, this month I finally had my portfolio launched after a long wait. It’s not quite finished yet, but it’s better than nothing. I will have to take some time to update the projects and I’m planning a couple of updates for the website itself.

I still have 2 Dribbble invites. So, anyone who is a designer — especially UI/UX designer — looking for an invite, leave a comment with a link to your portfolio, or send it over in an email and I’ll select those who I think are the best fit.

If you read my post from March you’ll know that I raised some questions there, mostly regarding the reasons why any of us that do design started to work in this field. What would be the core motivation for this, beyond creating some things that look good or increase the revenue of the company you work for? How can we, as designers, help build a better tomorrow, not only designing for screens? In the end, designers should be problem solvers, right? I would love to get some answers on this from you.

In summary, a good designer is a person who can feel, listen and understand, analyse precisely and quantifiably in detail, then share and communicate the results of the analysis using appropriate media to manufacture a product that, in turn, communicates with the user and fulfils their needs. Finally, a good designer has to produce ‘good design’; they must be innovative in the best sense of the word. In the end, a designer needs to ask themselves: ‘Have I succeeded in improving things? Making them better than others did? Is my design good design?’. — Dieter Rams

About work & mentoring

I still continued to work on both, Effective Experiments and Fulfilli. Also, I had a small project to work on too.

Sketches for Effective Experiments

At Effective Experiments, we started to work on a new app. The first part of the project was mostly research and sketches, but after that I started working on the design too. Hopefully, I can share some screens with you in the near future.

As about Fulfilli, we are working on adding some great new features, so creating nice looking quotes will be a bliss. Some of the updates are still in development, but stay tuned because they will be online soon.

On the mentoring side, I finished an another session with a mentee on RookieUp — so currently I’m down to 1 mentee. If you are interested in mentoring, I can tell you, it’s a really satisfying thing to do. You can help other designers to get things started, but it’s really helpful for you too. I highly recommend to give it a try. There are some platforms that can help you get started:
