Facebook gets a lot of things right when it comes to the UX Writing on their status updates.
For one, the UX Writing changes during the day. This is a great way to keep people reading and engaged when checking FB. Changing UX Writing isn’t for every occasion. For instance, I don’t know if I would suggest it for anything longer than a sentence, going over could be considered overwhelming.

Everything about the text is about the user. By making the text a question this gets the user thinking. Something is sparked and they consider if there is something worth sharing this early in the morning. The phrasing “on your mind” makes it appear that FB is only focused on one thing, you. Which fits with FB purpose and voice. Ending with “morning” makes it all the more conversational as if FB is trying to start a heart to heart over breakfast.

Later in the day the UX Writing changes. FB asks you another question “want to share?” This is very similar to something you might hear during a therapy session or another intimate scenario. FB wants to hear about what’s going on in your life and it finishes the sentence with your name. Reminding you that FB is your friend and you are on a first name basis.

In the evening, FB is done with the questions. The day is over and you must have something worth sharing. In fact, FB is so confident that this is the only UX Writing with overlap. “Share” is used twice during the day. Once as a question and the next as a strong suggestion. The only thing making the text not sound like a demand is the “…” at the end.
It’s really excited when UX Writing changes and it’s pulled off so successfully. Most of UX Writing is about consistency. Are you using the same word so the user recognizes it? Is your grammar consistent? Will anything stand out making the user come out of the digital platform in a way we had not planned? FB did a good job.
