I have always been an adventurous spirit. Once I was finished with college, I knew I was bound for something amazing. So I set out on my first journey to Austin, Texas, to work as a Software Designer at IBM.

Austin, itself, was beautiful. The canopy of trees atop tall cliffs that lined the various highways which lead to roadside riverbanks was absolutely breathtaking. Each morning, I took a peaceful, winding drive through hills and valleys — a side road that eventually came out into the trendy business sector where one of IBM’s massive flagship studios was located.

The intense three-month bootcamp had left me with lifelong friends, some of whom I now dearly miss. However, after nearly two years in Texas, I felt myself being called to a new adventure, this time, to California. Unlike most software developers, I was headed to Souther California, to urban Los Angeles. I had acquired a job at McGraw-Hill Education, and I was ready to take on more responsibility as a Lead User Experience Designer. Soon after, I received an amazing opportunity from one of my close friends to work remotely as the Director of User Experience for her augmented reality company. How could I not resist?

As much as I love California, I find myself wanting to rebuild my life. Perhaps I’m now tired of adventure, but I find myself on the other side of the country. I want to go back home. I miss my family. I miss my old friends — those who I’d gotten to know and graduated with several years ago. I need just a little bit extra income to get me back home. Which is why I’d love to take responsibility and put in the work needed with the Toptal UX Designers Community to make my dreams come true.
