I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of writing. I’m an avid reader and follow several writers socially. These talented wordsmiths range from paid professionals to witty bloggers. They share their opinions, experiences, and processes, but most importantly, they share their writing.
A few months ago, I made the decision to write. I started journaling my ideas, brainstorming topics, and even tried to write. . . several times. Despite my intentions, every article, note, or even snippet I could have shared, ended up in the trash.
I soon realized my decision to write didn’t mean anything because I never made the decision to be vulnerable.
As a creative professional, I share my designs, code, and communicate ideas to directors, stakeholders, and others in our industry on a daily basis. It isn’t always easy. But through this constant state of vulnerability, I’ve been able to build confidence and develop a deep connection to my work. One that brings me an indescribable joy each time I start or complete a project.

I believe the reason I’ve had such a difficult time writing is because I haven’t experienced the joys it can bring. By not allowing myself to be vulnerable, I haven’t been able to make a genuine connection to the medium.
This article (if you can even call it that) will mean very little to most, but for me, it is a huge step. It’s given me the opportunity to escape my paralysis and finally put myself out there.
