Logo is one of the most important components of a brand. It’s how your customers recognize your company. You want that symbol to come straight to their mind whenever someone mentions your company name. However, a good logo designer probably costs around $200/hr and hiring process is a pain in the butt. Don’t worry, we have put together a simple step-by-step guide for you to design your own logo instantly.

Step 1 — find an Apple computer

If you already have a macbook or iMac, great, you can skip this step. For people who don’t own an Apple computer, go to a city/university library, borrow from your family or friends, or just go to an Apple store nearby. It’s easy access.

Step 2 — Download Sketch

Once you have an Apple computer, you will want to download this amazing piece of software: Sketch

You don’t need to pay for it. Find the button on their home page that says “Download Free Trial”. You will get a free version for 14 days. That’s more than enough for you to create an awesome logo!

Sketch is a legitimate design software that’s made to be super user-friendly yet very powerful. 10–20 mins is all you need to figure out just about how everything works. You can also see the video below to follow our step-by-step guide.

Step 3 — Choose a type of logo

Ok, obviously you can’t design a crazy good looking logo, but if you look at many well-established companies such as LinkedIn, Medium, Facebook, Uber or Youtube, their logos are not so complicated and we can definitely follow the same idea.

Setp 4 — Preparation

Let’s say you have an e-commerce website called “LastOne” that lets people buy/sell rare collections of sneakers like this one.

Now, you can follow Facebook and Medium’s logo, which just has the first letter of their brand name. In our case, it’s the “L”, right? Good, we are making progress. Next, you need to pick a background color. I like blue, so let’s just go with that. The last thing you need to do is download a text font for the letter. It’s really easy. Go to this website: Google Fonts Find a font you like and follow the video below to download and install on your computer.

Now we have everything we need. A letter, a background color and a font. Let’s open Sketch and get started.

Step 5 — Create

This part is exciting because you get to play around with different effects and tools. But don’t get sucked into it. Remember, we have a logo to design. Watch the tutorial video below.

There you go, you got yourself a logo. Well, this is a very basic version of it. There are many other things that we can leverage in Sketch to give this logo a more defined look. For example, we can add some “shadow” to the letter, give the background a different type of color arrangements, change the size and shape of the logo, etc. Watch the video below to see more in actions.
