Hi, there! My last UI challenge was about designing and coding the social proof example for a landing page. Here is how it looks like:

This challenge has inspired me to write a new post about the social proof and explain to you what it is, why it works and how to use it.

Social proof is public documentation of the positive influence of the product on users in the form of customer testimonials and reviews, case studies and customer stories, number of shares, embedded social media posts, user downloads and so on.

Given good social proof, the conversion rate of the webpage increases. Thereby, social proof is a significant part of executing the landing page strategy. That’s why the most popular places for social proof are landing-, home-, pricing-, demo pages, etc.

Usually, to gain user trust, web designers add social proof in the form of a photo, name, company, job title along with the product experience as comments or reviews below.

To make users and customers even more interested it would be useful to create social sharing buttons that would show the number of shares on social media. The higher this number, the more credibility gives the social proof. The social sharing buttons could be placed not only with the social proof but also on the web pages, blog posts, etc.

Moreover, there is also an opportunity to embedded the social proof on social media. For example, on Instagram or Twitter by mentioning and by tagging the services or products which are offered by companies, freelancers, etc.

Another way to trigger user attention is to allow users to see the number of downloads of the product. And it could push users and customers to try your product.
