It’s been almost a week since I got my iPhone X. I heard a lot of people still complaining about the notch, but I actually finding myself loving the design of it, when you get used to it, you’ll actually find the radius of each corner is elegant and beautiful.
My personal experience with iPhone X is the Face ID does not work good in the morning every time I get up; the multitasking experience isn’t that well and the control center is too high up for me when single handed.
Overall, it is a great phone, but today I want to talk about things that Apple could improve for the future updates.
<h3>Multitasking:</h3>
“A simple swipe takes you to the home screen” is not hard for me to get used to. Compare with the home button, it kind provides a smoother feeling when your swipe up and the app magically shrink its size, it feels very fresh to me because usually the home button has few millisecond response times after a click, not only that the animation is always in a fixed speed.
Enough with the goodies, there are some thing I do believe it might annoys a lot of people.

<h4>1. Press &amp; hold in order to quit an app in the app switcher:</h4>
I feel like this is kind unnecessary, it’s just like the first iOS 11 beta of the iPad version, but then Apple ditched it out and replaced it with swipe to close in the later version. I think this UX design should be consistent for the iPhone X too, also it is way more efficient.
<h4>2. Swipe up &amp; hold to trigger the app switcher:</h4>
The hold gesture makes it harder sometime for people to open up the app switcher, which kind like adding costs to the users to manage their apps running in the background. On previous generation iPhones, all you need to do was double click on the home screen, fast and simple, but this adds a lot of learning curve to get used to. My suggestion would be quick swipe or swipe up with a short distance for home screen and swipe all the way up to approximately half the height of the screen for multitasking. Just like what we have for the iPad, you can decide only to make the Dock appear or the whole app switcher appear.
<h3>Control Center:</h3>
The control center for iPhone X is now triggered by swiping down from the top right side of the screen, which doesn’t make sense at all for single handed mode. I found myself accidently swiping up from the bottom of the screen all the time to access control center.

This part of the UX design is super inconsistent across all other iOS devices. I found out the best way just make it like what we have on the iPads, maybe just merge with app switcher. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and all your controls will still be there.
<h3>Home Bar:</h3>
I am not a huge fan of space wasting, just like I don’t like android, they have those “back”, “home” and “app switcher” button all the time wasting the bottom of the screen. Google Pixel rater have this empty weird blank chin instead of expanding the screen down for those buttons or maybe just touch sensitive buttons.

Now this time, iPhone X has this home bar occupying or overlapping at the bottom of the screen most of the time. In landscape mode, it wasted a huge amount of space for apps, some apps haven’t fully optimized for iPhone X even have to shrink into iPhone 8 size window.

Do we need a bar for iPad multitasking? Do we need a bar for the control center, or notification? The answer is clearly no, so why do we have a bar for iPhone X, you can still swipe between apps with pure gestures. If the bar is there just for the indication then what’s the point even changing it from a home button or maybe virtual home button? We should get rid of it for more functionalities, for example, like emoji on the keyboard.

Felt that Apple was doing great on the hardware, I am pretty sure just like all other Apple products, they’ve been designed it and get itwell prepared for a really long time. But from the software part, it kind gives me a feeling that Apple realized they could just get rid of the home button by using a home bar at the last moment before they have to launch the product. But, those are just few thoughts of mine, only from user experience point view hope you guys really enjoy it.
