I’ve just completed one of my first online courses. No, it was not remotely design related actually but I’m hoping the benefits will be transferable to everything I do.

I decided to take a look at how I could improve my learning.

We all consume so much content each and every day that it’s hard to keep track of what we are reading. Furthermore, there’s just so much content out there how can we read more and learn more at the same time?

The average reading speed is limited to that voice inside of our head, how can we limit this sub-vocalisation and read more than ever? Probably more importantly, how is this remotely related to design and creation?

Time is precious, waste it wisely — This got me hooked to StudyFast’s online speed reading course. It made me wonder how much time I’ve used reading great, and not so great, articles on Medium and other sites. The hours I may of waste on Muzli whilst I could have been more proactive…

So, after talking to Jordan Harry, the CEO and Founder of StudyFast I enrolled onto the online course.

I’m sure you are like me, I’m sure you’ve spent plenty of time reading articles from Medium or from Muzli when you should have been working. I’m even surer that you find it hard to find the time to read so why trying to learn how to read faster is a no-brainer right? I’m glad you understand.

So sure, I’ve completed the course and no I wouldn’t yet consider myself a ‘speed reader’. But what I have now learnt are the tools and techniques that are needed to become one with emphasis placed on practice to get better and better.

These tools are broken down into a useful step by step guide from rapid pre-reading the content to pacers, the course was really insightful into which technique would suit me best and when.

When it comes to design and user experience, well I think the benefits shout for themselves and it’s something I will be making sure I keep track of. Reading faster whilst comprehending more is surely going to be great but time will tell if I can practice and use these techniques.

A well-informed designer surely leads to better-informed designs? I know it’s not about reading a book a day but I’m all in for learning how to do just that.
