#30dayUXchallenge [Day 4]

We are always being challenged about trying, using and even testing new methods or templates when it matters to UX.

As professionals in this field we normally try some templates once and then we continue using only the ones that take less effort or whatever works best to have everybody on board.

We also love the idea of having new inspiration when it comes to Design Thinking approach. ‘We facilitate providing new methods’—bonus points for designers!

Value Proposition is definitely one of them, but what is it really?

Some definitions from the web

Some people describe it as ‘the benefits customers can expect from your products & services’. Others as ‘an alignment between business and customers — providing the right value for customer from a business point of view’.

Wikipedia:
‘A value proposition is a promise of value to be delivered, communicated, and acknowledged. It is also a belief from the customer about how value (benefit) will be delivered, experienced and acquired’

From Strategyzer:
As “A simple way to understand your customers needs, and design products and services they want.”

Strategyzer talks about Value Proposition and they even run some workshops around it.

They also mention that in the Business Model canvas, there’s one of the sections for the Value Proposition — the gift one — and it should be capture differently in a separate canvas.

We got the point of what a Value Proposition is, right?
As designers, we want to find the middle ground between business & users, and value proposition helps us filling this gap.

We tried and we loved it

We tried it in our company, and the overall experience was really good! Even though it was the first time we ran it, we failed in the way that we explained the workshop’s outcome to the team. We also found challenging to explain the main differences between some of the quadrants.

Some tips that may save your time

Before the session starts:
1. Being clear with your audience about the expected outcome of the session.
2. Show some examples of other Value Propositions from the web — if you don’t find a good one, you could also create one.
3. Don’t forget to make the prioritisation for every quadrant — you will find it useful when you map it.
