Issue #203
From free fonts, to open source AI, here’s what’s new:
- Do free fonts get a bad wrap? This week’s toolbox includes Google Fonts alternative, Fontshare ✒️– a collection of 50 fonts, free for commercial use. Despite the bad wrap free fonts can get, check out why free fonts are a good thing in Erik D. Kennedy’s newly published article: “Free Font Alternatives: The Ultimate Guide“. Inside he shares guidance on when and how to use free fonts effectively.
- Figma Overload: The official Tailwind UI for Figma 🔥is available, and there’s a new behind the scenes look at it from David Luhr, Lead Developer at Tailwind. Also Figma related is Steve Ruiz’s awesome analysis of noodly prototypes: “Figma’s Interactive Components Were Not Designed For This”, and Darshan’s Twitter thread on organising Figma files is worth a peak!
- GPT-Free: GPT-3 technology from OpenAI opened a world of possibility for many industries, including design. Unlike it’s open name though, getting access to it has been pretty limited. Cue the open source alternative – 🤖 Eleuther’s GPT-Neo. “Open sourcing big AI projects could make the technology more accessible and widespread at a time when it has become increasingly entrenched at big tech firms.” Read more about it on Wired.
And last but not least, shout out to Thalion, who’s just launched Prime 3.0 on Product Hunt – a comprehensive Sketch UI Kit. That’s the news! Read on for new tools and featured articles 👇
